Downtime varies based on the intensity of your treatment. Minimal downtime involves only one day of redness following the session. Redness, warmth, swelling, and irritation may persist for 7-10 days with a more aggressive approach.
The timeline to apply makeup after a Fountain of Youth procedure depends on how intense the treatment was. Sometimes, you can wear makeup the very next day. But if the treatment was more aggressive, you'll need to wait until it's safe to start wearing makeup again. Your provider will let you know when it's okay to start.
To get the best results, it's recommended to have a treatment once each 4-6 weeks for at least three sessions. Once you achieve the desired results, it's suggested to have a single maintenance session each 6-12 months to keep up the good work.
It's important to tell your doctor about any health problems you have before getting a certain treatment. This includes things like diabetes, diseases that affect your connective tissue, or if you've had radiation or chemotherapy. You should also let your doctor know if you have any infections or if you've had cold sores on your mouth, lips, or face before. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you shouldn't get the treatment. Tell your doctor if you're allergic to any medicines, like creams that numb your skin, antibiotics, and other drugs. And if you've taken a medicine called Isotretinoin (also known as Accutane) in the last year, you should avoid the treatment. Finally, let your doctor know if you've had any problems with scars or any other skin problems in the past.
Before going for any follow-up treatments, it's important to let your practitioner know if you've started taking any medications since beginning the treatment program. Also, if you have a sunburn or a tan, it's best to avoid getting any treatments done on those areas until your skin has fully healed. To make sure your skin is ready for treatment, avoid direct sun exposure or tanning beds for at least four weeks before your appointment. And don't forget to apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or more sunscreen to protect your skin.
After the treatment, you may notice some redness and small bleeding in the treated area, which can last for a couple hours to a couple of days. You might feel a mild sensation like a sunburn and some discomfort, but you can use an ice pack to feel better. If you tend to swell, you can take Zyrtec or Claritin daily for a week before and after the treatment. Your practitioner may apply a special cream post-treatment to help your skin heal. To help protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun, use a lotion that has SPF 30 or higher every day. A few days after the initial treatment, your skin may look darker and then start to peel, like a sunburn. To avoid scarring, avoid picking at the skin while it is peeling.
It's really important to take good care of your skin after you've had a treatment. This means using the right products and techniques to keep it healthy and looking great. Be sure to adhere to your skincare routine as advised by Candice Roberts, NP. Keep the treated area clean and hydrated until it is fully healed. To keep the treated area clean and healthy, use a gentle cleanser to wash it twice a day. Apply cool water with your fingertips to avoid any irritation. Apply ZO Hydrating Crème or Vanicream Ointment onto the treated area several times per day until any blistering, swelling, or dryness has gone away. Sleep with your head elevated the night before your treatment to reduce any swelling. Apply a water and vinegar solution (2 cups of water to 1 cap of vinegar) to soothe any irritation and eliminate bacteria the day after your treatment. Drink plenty of water while going through the recovery process. You can shower as normal, being careful of temperature sensitivity in the treatment area. Avoid using swimming pools, chlorine, and hot tubs while going through the treatment process. Stay out of direct sunlight during the treatment program, and use SPF 30 sunscreen after your skin has fully healed (usually about one week). Don't use loofah sponges, exfoliants, or scrub the treatment areas too hard.
To make sure your treatment works well, you need to take some extra care. For 30 days before the treatment, avoid going out in the sun or using tanning beds. After the treatment, don't rub, pick at, or scratch the treatment area. Instead, after a bath or shower, gently pat the skin dry. Wait for two to three days before applying makeup. Also, refrain from shaving in the treated area until at least 48 hours following the procedure. You can start using skincare products with active ingredients like Vitamin C, Hydroquinone, Retin A (Tretinoin), Retinol, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Glycolic Acid once the skin has had a chance to heal fully, which usually takes around 7-14 days.
